Job Description

This position develops and manages all EH&S programs to achieve plant strategic objectives, drive year-over-year increases in safety and ergonomics, maintain highest environmental quality standards as well as comply with governmental laws and regulations. All related activities are designed to establish a company safety culture that propels continuous improvement, increased employee involvement and sustainable results.

Responsibilities
  • Ensures compliance with all Health, Safety and Environmental laws and regulations,
  • Manage, plan, and coordinate overall Plant Safety Program including Safety Training, Safety Audits, Incident Investigations, and Emergency Response to control conditions contributing to occupational hazards and diseases.
  • Provide technical support, monitor, and implement OSHA required programs and general EHS programs including, but not limited to fire safety support, LOTO, general loss prevention, electrical safety, HazCom, Hearing Conservation and Incident Investigation.
  • Monitor new regulations/regulatory standards, implementing policies and systems that ensure compliance with the State’s Occupational Safety and Health program as well as the OSHA, DEQ, and EPA.
  • Puts in place actions to proactively reduce the number of Workers' Compensation cases. Investigates each accident to determine the cause and method for prevention. Implements administrative or engineering controls to abate or minimize safety hazards. Communicates outcomes of investigations to appropriate team members and provides all appropriate follow-up.
  • Serve as a regulatory/technical expert in complicated interactions with regulatory authorities and supports the negotiation of fines and penalties.
  • Responsible for hazardous materials/waste management including the proper storage and disposal and interfaces with third parties to obtain/maintain all documentation regarding waste stream storage and disposal.
  • Performs field and safety measurements, safety evaluations, and hazardous waste evaluations.
  • Develops and writes facility safety and environmental Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Works with maintenance regarding the installation of new and refurbished equipment to prevent any unforeseeable hazards and ergo issues.
  • Maintains material safety data sheets.
  • Maintains safety supplies and equipment including inventory, disbursement, ordering, etc.
  • Conducts new hire safety orientation and continuous training of employees on safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Ensures all necessary records are maintained and prepared according to established guidelines.
  • Serves as Safety and Improvement Committee leader, holds regular safety meetings and evaluates safety suggestions. Promotes a safety awareness culture in the workplace.

Skills
  • Demonstrated competency in technical areas including Fire Safety, Emergency Preparedness, Facility Audits and Safety Management.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with regulatory authorities, government officials, major customers and senior executives within the network and strong track record in the management of compliance matters with regulatory agencies.
  • Proven experience in implementing and managing safety programs in a manufacturing environment.
  • Thorough understanding of OSHA and other federal and state safety regulations.
  • Ability to provide training and instruction to employees on safety procedures and best practices.
  • Ability to identify and evaluate hazards and implement appropriate controls.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree and/or 5 years of related experience in printing and packaging manufacturing.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent certification is a plus.
  • Must have printing and/or packaging experience.
